The Master of Engineering Science Degree was completed by research. Some course work was, however, completed to gain knowledge about microbiological and biochemical systems. The thesis looked at the destruction of residual cyanide in gold tailings using microbes (sewage).

The Doctorate was in the area of waste coal recovery. It looked at the recovery of such coal as both a resource conservation measure and as an environmental protection measure.
